The China Foreign Ministry says folks are making a little too much out of the meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Justin (Jussie Trudy) Trudea and China President Xi (Chi Chi) Jinping.
The Reuters folks quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning as saying, “The video you mentioned was indeed a short conversation both leaders held during the G20 summit. This is very normal. I don’t think it should be interpreted as Chairman Xi criticizing or accusing anyone.”
During a break of all the business stuff going on at the G20 Summit, Chi Chi and Jussie Trudy spoke about a private conversation the two had that Jussie Trudy made public. Chi Chi let Jussie Trudy know that he didn’t believe the private conversation should be made public. The Reuters folks quoted Chi Chi as saying to Jussie Trudy, “if there is sincerity, we can communicate well with mutual respect, otherwise the outcome will not be easy to tell.”
The reason folks are saying Chi Chi was giving Jussie Trudy a dressing down is due to the tensions between the two countries for the last couple of years.
The tensions between the two countries are a result of China imprisoning Canadian Diplomat Michael Kovrig and Businessman Michael Spavor for three years, Canada arresting and then threatening to send Huawei Executive Meng Wanzhou to Canada’s sister America, the U.S. of A, to face fraud charges, and then there are the allegations that China pulled a “Russia” by interfering in Canada’s 2019 elections.
The part about the election interfering is what folks are saying led to the conversation between the two during their break at the G20 Summit.
Jussie Trudy let Chi Chi know that that unlike China, Canada is a democracy where the people are treated like thinking beings and not sheep who are told what to do.
Here’s what the Reuters folks quoted Jussie Trudy as saying to Chi Chi, “Canada trusts its citizens with information about the conversations that we have in their name as a government.”
Ouch! That right there will make a person deny being hurt by words after they’ve been embarrassed by the fact that they were hurt by words.
